It all started on December 12, 1999 when my friends, Shaun, Kevin, Jason and I all boarded an Air Pacific flight to Nandi Fiji.

Our first stop was the Sea Shell Cove Resort. This is a popular first stop for surfers. It has access to some of the best surf in Fiji. We were on a boat, heading out to the reef within an hour of landing in Fiji. On our way out to Wilkes Passage we passed Cloud Break and Tavarua. Wilkes Passage was flat so we went on to the last possible surf spot accessed from the Sea Shell Cove Resort, properly called Desperationג€™s. The water was crystal clear and the surf had good shape and decent size.

At the Sea Shell Cove Resort we met up with Matt and Anthony, two Kiwis on surf tour, and Rodrigo a Brazilian on the last leg of his tour of the South Pacific. The seven of us packed our boards on the top of a cab and piled in to make the trip to the Singatoka River Mouth and Club Masa. The Singatoka river mouth pumps out enough fresh water to kill any coral in the area thus leaving the area fully exposed to southern swells. The waves were great but the water was dark brown and shark sightings were common.

At Club Masa we met up with Greg and Lea, two Canadian newly weds on honey moon. We were to meet again. Rodrigo left us from Club Masa to return home to San Paulo. His last night was made special by two bottles of over proofed Bounty Rum lots of beer and a classic ג€œgood by my F#$%&*G frien-ds.ג€

Our last stop was the Beach Comer Resort for a little R&R before our flight to Sydney.
